InfinitasSat, Dec 12, 2009 I agree with Nagash on all accounts, but I have also have a special spot reserved for 2012 within me.
I must admit, if I could pick an event or something that was the very beginning of what would lead to my spiritual/conscious development (also as I look back tracing coincidences), it would begin about 12 years ago with my older brother telling me about a Mayan prophecy and an ancient timeline on a wall in one of the great Giza pyramids which climbed up a ramp and ended with the year 2012 where there was a bottomless pit. I was hooked. The whole 2012 thing has evolved in so many way within my mind since then, but without it all, I wouldn't be who I am today and therefore there is a significance about it.
I don't have faith in something happening but hope. I look forward to 2012 in anticipation of a sort of "rebirth," which is what many ancient civilizations have talked about. But rebirth may include death...lots of it; I think rebirth and death are almost interchangeable to a certain extent. I really have begun to view all aspects of life and the universe as cyclical. I think this is part of the wisdom that has been lost with many ancient cultures. 2012 may just be the end of an age and the beginning of a new one.
HelloAlexCL made a comment on my On Global Awareness post about some sort of catastrophe that causes global awareness. This is another way I look at 2012.
Better safe than sorry. If there is a shift in consciousness where some could be left behind, I surely don't want to be one of them. I don't plan on going to any "End of the World" parties. If nothing happens then no big deal.

This site seems to have a lot of varied information about it. http://2012wiki.com/index.php?title=Main_Page I especially like the Hopi indian's prophecy.
