Comment on On Global Awareness

I think the kinds of differences in thought between the kinds of people you mentioned are somewhat superficial. There is a rigorous rationale (rationality, reason) that both "types" share. I think the task we face - as the immensely powerful superorganism we've become - is to recognize the common motivation we all share. This motivation is synonymous with planetary purpose. I think this will occur naturally, perhaps when we recognize our collective power - bestowed upon even the single individual or small groups of individuals by the progress we've made as a species (think about the threat of superviruses, terrorism, nuclear weapons). This recognition, as one might imagine, may come at a great cost. I think we stand at the brink of a copernican revolution of the mind from an ego-based cognition to a collective intelligence. I wonder how "human" this collective intelligence will be, though, and to what degree it already exists.
