I hope to put these ideas into a science-based narrative documentary film. The intelligent management of the earth's resources. Any participation or suggestions from SC would be a great resource in putting forward these difficult ideas - Thanks - J.

I am currently involved in a merchandising company with the same ideals. ORNG, is explained as

"A farmer of sorts left his yield unattended. The patrons gathered there goods with ladders and bags provided. Charts and scales to measure with envelopes to drop IN THE BOX. With HONOR each enjoyed THE RETURN."

    Hasan

PS::: A letting go affect is needed... With an honor system of trust.

In the pursuit of lofty ideals we must sometimes ignore constraints that we know we cannot truly avoid; money is one such constraint. I dare to propose to you that money is not the problem, but that greed and a big misapprehension of the link between wealth and happiness might be.

At any rate, before you ask how we might go about moving beyond money as a means of resource exchange, perhaps it is important to wonder if this is even possible? What conditions would remove money from the global cultural equation? I suspect that this would only occur as a result of a catastrophic social collapse that would see the end of a globally linked community. No more air travel, no more internet, no more knowing what is happening on the other side of the world. At the very least, human civilisation in the early 21st century wouldn't abandon money without radical and profound changes to the conditions of our lives - and to suppose that those changes would be wholly positive, or not alter the situation beyond recognition seems wishful at best. To assume that the continuity of this information structure - the internet - through such change is unsupportable.
I like the idea of a world founded on a different economic paradigm; however, I am skeptical that any means other than total catastrophe could lead to such a changed situation.

I have a lot to add on this subject. I feel that decentralized, safe, encrypted digital economies will be of paramount importance to the survival of mankind. Here are some thoughts I have gotten down, but they are still somewhat disorganized. I have much more material to add, but I’m still organizing and still writing much of it. I’m planning several more posts here on this subject.

What I still think most important is a system that is representative of both perfect personal freedom aka socialism AND perfect economic freedom aka capitalism (the right to choose how to work and spend.) This must be done while avoiding authoritarianism (a system which is both not economically free and/or not socially free.)

    Chaotic yet Ordered
    Distributed yet Encrypted

Is the answer bitcoin / anonymous p2p banking?

“In order for the collective to manifest, decision making must be done in an honest yet anonymous manner, how can we signify this relationship, the capitalistic view, of total individual freedom, freedom to have maximum decision making power in our government to every person, including the right to anonymously create bills, comment on bills, vote for or against bills, bills are usually voted for or against based on personal interests, all votes or ongoing and continuously accumulate. The people should own the shops aka the means of production, not the government (authoritarian socialism), and not the corporations/bankers (power centered capitalism) the economy must be based on a secure, digital, distributed money/value system. Bitcoin works well because it allows an economy to grow as new bitcoins are generated without using a concentration of power (capital) to fuel the growth. This new system will allow capital or modes of production votes to be concentrated in a natural manner out of an originally distributed state. This is how the real economy works. Value is created in the production of goods. Money is then used to allow secure (fair) trade between users. P2P banking allows this by using encryption as the means of security. Real money is secured by the federal government with laws against counterfeiting. Digital money is secured though encryption, and the public tracking of transactions. Transactions are currently controlled by computers in banks. Now the records can be kept in a distributed network in the form of a continuously generated hash string.

The internet and especially distributed p2p technologies and software are allowing capitalism to reach its truest form in online P2P banking. The economy will truly be in the hands of the people and will be able to take on true Marxist anarchistic and capitalistic values in a true form that doesn’t concentrate power in the authoritarian, and still allows humans to "vote" on the future of humanity by investing in value and trading that value to others to create even more value, this is the true purpose for the collective civilized lifestyle, the true universaltopia, each and every person promised total economic freedom, without inhibiting the rights of all others to do the same. Live freely and do as one truly pleases, live and let live. And help others withhold these principals as well. The free creation of information is what it's all about. As the real economy transitions more and more to digital goods, this will be truer than ever.”

Hey, since I don't have any pain in the ass micro$oft junk in my house, I've been waiting to get bitcoin ported to linux. The port finally went down (although I'm a bit disappointed it requires GTK and all that), so when I find the time to get it all set up I'll give you guys a shout with my address hash for it and whatnot :)

So I left an otherwise useless old computer on in the corner of my bedroom without another thought for a bit less than a month in one stretch, running nothing but a barebones linux install and bitcoin. 3,150 bitcoins which got generated in that time exchanged to about 19.something USD when I donated them to an old pal who accepts them as payment at his excellent VOIP company:

If you're not into running idle computers for some wicked phone services that you don't have to pay evil $$$ for, you can exchange your own coins for USD here:
