    The Long Now Foundation
The Long Now Foundation was established in 01996 to develop the Clock and Library projects, as well as to become the seed of a very long term cultural institution. The Long Now Foundation hopes to provide counterpoint to today's "faster/cheaper" mind set and promote "slower/better" thinking. We hope to creatively foster responsibility in the framework of the next 10,000 years.

You have to read about The Millennium Clock
An essay by Danny Hillis from 01995

Actually we have to learn about the Foundation and if possible to participate as a member.

I was going to make a new post about this but found that LED made this one a while back. Aside from having made the 10,000 year clock Long Now has been working on the Rosetta Project, http://www.rosettaproject.org/.  "The Rosetta Project is a global collaboration of language specialists and native speakers building a publicly accessible online archive of ALL documented human languages."

I think that once completed and easily accessible, this archive will be of great importance in the globalization of the entire world. Communication is the key in relaying ideas, and sharing these ideas, rather than keeping them for one's own country/culture/self, is the way to secure Polytopia. Being able to understand any human language will allow an unprecedented, worldwide exchange of ideas and knowledge, launching us that much closer to a Polytopian society (or a never ending Golden Age, as I like to think of it as).

Also, I found this article on the Long Now Foundation's blog: http://blog.longnow.org/2009/02/20/we-are-programmed-to-be-interrupted/.  Could future, technological advances that we aspire to, be a breeding ground for the all-threatening greed and ignorance? Or worse, propel us into a Dark Age instead of a Golden one?
