New Rules for the New Economy
    Project: Polytopia
Radical Strategies for a Conected World

    The net is our future.

"Of all the endeavors we humans are now engaged in, perhaps the grandest of them all is the steady weaving together of our lives, minds, and artifacts into a global scale network. This great work has been going on for decades, but recently our ability to connect has accelerated. Two brand-new technological achievements—the silicon chip and the silicate glass fiber—have rammed together with incredible speed. Like nuclear particles crashing together in a cyclotron, the intersection of these two innovations has unleashed a never-before-seen force: the power of a pervasive net. As this grand net spreads, an animated swarm is reticulating the surface of the planet. We are clothing the globe with a network society.

The dynamic of our society, and particularly our new economy, will increasingly obey the logic of networks. Understanding how networks work will be the key to understanding how the economy works."

Very interested. I have a book "How Networks Work" (I think). Waiting for more info though because it is just a technical book. Would like to continue discussions of the concept of business ideas or economies based on open source technology. That to me is the "way".
    Thanks

Some years ago I read the book "Linked", written by Albert-Laszlo Barabasi. I found this chapter

That's a great chapter.."The 14 Link: Network Economy". Thanks for that Mauro and LED, thanks for posting this topic.

That chapter closes by saying: "The challenge is for economic and network research alike to put these laws [universal laws that govern nature's webs] into practice. To that end, playing a game can teach more about these laws and help tease out the "way' aka. Tao pronounced DOW, before we begin "putting" dollars or "shorting" our existing systems. There is a description of a game I am envisioning called "Yenom Wen" (pdf at  http://groups.google.com/group/fifth-dimension-fridays  ) .

The objective is to manage your life and environment with a monetary system based on ecological principles, as we use energy and focus to step off the corporate ladder and begin "net" working. Idealistic maybe, but hope is in the "I" of the beholder, and facts often get out of the "way".

Feel free to develop, adapt and share this game. I'm interested in feedback and even playing sometime soon.
