If you want to opt out of the meme, or even be agossipistic (if I may create an analogue to atheistic), great. But it might help to think about what you're opting out of, why it exists, and whether or not you are really opting out or just replacing the people you talk about with "other" people/things that fit better into your monkeysphere (e.g., can you think of one or two things that redditors essentially "gossip" about?).
I think actually thinking about social ethics and talking about them, and coming to agreements about them, with people who aren't wastes of time, really beats gossiping.
"Whoever gossips to you will gossip about you." - some proverb
Constantly talking about social matters without much thought put into it, just a bunch of stupid monkey feeling behind what's being said, is a type of insanity in a lot of people, if you ask me. Sucks that most people are stuck on that level of (un?)consciousness where they can't grow out of drama. I wonder what could be done to convince them otherwise, though?
