Project proposal / cry for help: SC music forum

Are you there? Can you help me?

I like hearing music from Space Collective, especially whilst composing posts. Is there any way to find music posted by members?

If not, it might work in a project space, in which all the posts would include music - ideally members' own.

To accommodate people's inclination to write about the music - but in musicless posts - there could be one sticky post where members could add links to their own cargo's silent posts in the comments.

The aim would be to have [my own private] an open (and hopefully exhaustive) library of the original music on Space Collective.

    Is there a way?

(Or - quick fix! - if you are a musician and you have posted music, can you tell me where it is?)

Yes, that is an interesting suggestion. Have you ever tried muxicall? It is quite interesting, especially if others are online with you.

I definitely like the sound of an "exhaustive library of the original music on Space Collective." Sounds like a great project.

    (Muxicall is also quite great.)

I'm assuming of course that there is (or will be) a significant amount of original music going up. So far I have only hit a couple of such posts...

I suppose a similar setup could work for images - is that what the gallery is for?

    Thanks for the muxicall tip-off.

A few nights ago I got bored and then I wasn't because I discovered I have a natural talent for making psychedelic traditional chinese music on an old keyboard I've had since I was a little kid. If I can find a mic I'll upload it.

Our friend imunderpressure has posted quite a few music selections in the past. I too believe a music project would be an interesting idea. perhaps you should create a more formal proposal and send to Mission Control?

dmitridb: I'm not sure if you're being serious, but I want you to upload that music! (Recorded with a microphone, like the old days - the sound goes through the air before you seal it! Did they use to do that?)

josh: thanks for that link and encouragement. I'm not sure how to make a formal project proposal, and at this stage I think there is too much uncertainty anyway about the size of the Space Collective music-creating community. Would there be anything in this library if it were made?

All: To help answer this, please continue to

    1. post links to musical cargo when you find it,

    2. promote this post to show support for the project.

If a convincing proposal comes together, I'll send it. Thanks for your interest.

How about a more general creativity project? Where SpaceCollective members would upload all sorts of creativity - photography, music, illustration, film, etc. I'm sure there is plenty of creativity and talent to tap into in the SpaceCollective community.

And perhaps this would help clean up the general feed, by giving a space to these kinds of posts. A SpaceCollective playground of sorts. I also like the idea of promoting the doing of things on/through SpaceCollective.

    Just some thoughts out loud.

I like the idea of a creativity project. However, might it not become too big to be just one project? I mean it would be great if people could sort by medium - e.g. between photography, music, illustration, film, etc. (Then I could find my music!) but aren't a lot of the posts on SC creative ones? Should we showcase fiction and poetry too? What does that leave? Essays and links?

(These are just more thoughts out loud, by the way.)

The more I look at this, the more I see an extension of the gallery. But three things unlike the current gallery that I'd like to see are:

    - more media than just static images (and perhaps those images divided by medium)
    - a focus on original works, not harvested from the webs
    - inclusion of all submitted works, not a selection

That is all getting to sound like a big deal, but starting with a project for one particular medium (e.g. music) might work...

I love the semi-chaotic nature of Space Collective, the fact that until I let a post slide open in front of me, I'm never exactly sure what I will get. But I do concur, more connections please, creative mediations, networks that form themselves, rather than us choosing for them to be founded. A 'gallery' equivalent for sound, vision and interactivity would be superb.

I have just recently finished uploading the first set of tracks from a space-related musical collaboration onto SpaceCollective. I've linked the project's SC 'Manifesto' page as a synapse to this post in case you're interested.

Music understanding is based on the history of aesthetics, surely if music is going up there might be some sort of introduction on the origin of music?

I'm definitely going to contribute, here is my first public software mapped project for viola and headset.
