It may sound over the top, but as we continue to use up our resources on this particular planet it would make sense to me that we would genetically prepare ourselves for existance and expression on metaphyscial level.

The fact of awareness by the mind of itself and the world : consciousness emerges from the operations of the brain.
I actually like to think of consciousness as being somewhat separate from the brain, or rather in conjunction with the operations of the brain. Without the brain I still feel as though we remain conscious on some level- the brain is simply a mechanism that allows us to recognize our consiousness in the physical realm.
