In the past centuries man has been working to get all the knowledge needed to facilitate our lives. We have now access to a million different products to consume, we can have several gadgets like GPS, cellphones, ipod and so much more to make our life much more fun and easier. We can talk by chat to a person that lives in Japan, we can use a computer in a middle of the jungle, we have access to all information we want with just a click away, we can travel to all over the world flying in the sky almost in a supersonic speed and space is no longer the final frontier.
I believe nowadays we all have a new important mission: return to mother nature all the resources that humankind have been taken from her all over the past years; we need to give back the environment it´s balance because without it all the planet are in risk and the facilities and luxury that we have conquered will be useless in a short future.
A lot of big companies all over the world are working on that mission with campaigns of “Carbon free”, is like a new fashion in the world of Corporate Social Responsibility. The companies, usual the most pollutants like oil companies and airlines for example, are investing their money in several sustainable energy projects at every part of the glob. By financing these projects they offset they hight level of carbon emissions and so they are contributing for the success of the Kyoto Protocol.
I think the Kyoto Protocol is a very good started to invert the fragile situation of the environment and I also congratulate all the companies that are working in carbon free campaigns but what I am still a little bit reluctant about the real results of these campaigns. If the sustainable energy researches really result will the oil companies destroy the oil business and reinvest millions in the producing and distribution of a new clean energy? If it wasn't a new, fashion and lucrative way of self-promotion will the companies do all these efforts to contribute for the planet environment? Isn't a little hypocrite that the ones who most contribute for the destruction of the environment are now sponsoring the lifetime works of great scientists and at the same time continue to produce the same levels of carbon emissions?
I really hope that, in spit of the companies profits with the social marketing campaigns, the climate and the environment would be the main beneficiary of all the “Carbon free” actions happening in the world. I hope "Carbon free" do more than promote business.
