Maybe it depends on the kind of "trying". Some people do the "war for peace" way which I think is pretty ironic.
A lot also depends on semantics. Define peace? Define trying to achieve peace? Some might think peace = no conflict which is kinda true but that could lead to a dictatorship / authoritarian system... wherein nobody "fights" but you know, nobody is really happy. (To me that doesn't define peace.) Which also brings up another thing, there are two kinds of freedom: 'freedom to' and 'freedom from'.
To me, striving for peace involves practicing peace, I do not believe in "war for peace". So I do not see how my idea of striving for peace would bring about such negative effects. :)
Another thing is— following logic this time— if we don't struggle for peace, if we just give up, then what would be the effects of that? If it meant that we'd just give in to violence and conflict, then wouldn't that be much worse?
