We listen to the voice, the tune of acceleration distributed in million labs, the undercurrent wave is pulsating, growing, aggregating life and potency. I am listening to its tremendous voice of the very now, in millions interconnected computing stations. I am listening as an artist does; it is a wide almost wild voice, I merge till merging loses its bottom line, a mind sets to a pure tension. It starts to gather, atom to atom, to letters, to words…

The Singularity Indeed Has Already Happened

    Montevideo
The first word that sparks in my mind when coming to the raw articulation of that sense emerging in me is “Montevideo”.
It’s like in the story that I recall from my childhood, about a Spanish ship of the 16th Century that had been sailing around for months, no land crossing its way, when at a sudden moment the sailor on the mast, with his very last few breaths started shouting – Montevideo… Montevideo (…I see a mountain).
And so, I see a mountain… Like to say, I see a future… standing right here, on our way to the there.

    A Letter to my self

The amazing thing about the singularity, the Story of the singularity that is, is the way it affects us.
When projecting it on the line of our event horizon, the singularity is a story that brings us into deconstruction and moves us into composing ourselves anew.
The human today lives in a radical time, actually an extremely radical time; the future is rushing at us, proposing for the first time the idea and reality of a better platform, distinctively different from the imperfect outcome of natural selection.
It is the beginning of an accelerating change that is starting to gain a confident and attractive position, projecting the human over an open horizon. Changing the very meaning of what, who and how a human is.
We as contemporary humans are crossing ways with this complex intersection and possible evolutionary event; we may gain some of the fruits of it and we may not.

And so I open eyes to a landing perspective, and once more my reflection is, that the amazing thing about the singularity, the Story of the singularity that is, is the way it affects us.
In all of its possible doors of emergence, the story of the singularity, this modern mythology to my eyes is a catalyst, before anything else, a catalyst for self- definition and a vehicle of transformation.

A catalyst for self-definition and a vehicle of transformation

Alongside with what we know as our drama of being – which lays in defining the ‘constant’, the very sense of our selves, while allowing all the rest to be continuously transformed – alongside with that, for us, initially nothing actually really changes, in encountering such a story as the story of the singularity.
Yet, it is eventually taking us, A potent wave of projection, demanding from us a fresh definition of our constant – the spark of our knowledge of being – if we wish to provide the case for our continuity through rushing transformation, encompassing both the closest and farthest levels of our existence.
And slowly the act of inclusion of such a story, gains in us the subtle knowledge of why. The unquenched desire to unfold our sense of universality, through distillation of being, as the continuous factor across evolutionary intersections that bear with them the very sense of dis-continuity.
The usage of the story of the singularity as a playground for an inner and straightforward narrative is in a way organic.
And so, this is the first angle through which I see a future, a home for a pulsing heart of substance. A subtle bridge between our core sense of being and this exploding evolutionary intersection, providing a fresh edge for our humane evolutive adventure.

    Our Humane evolutive adventure

The pattern of our event of self-reflection as humans- the core approximating itself within continuous metamorphosis - is a vision in itself. And it is always navigating in search of an activating story, the one that connects the dots.
And so, we can… we can afford to include and weave that story as a playground for swift iteration. We may also disclose our poetry of self-description for a better tomorrow towards the possibility of designing ourselves a direction within the storytelling of an evolutionary crack.
In that, the act of inclusion may provide a potent horizon within which the procedure of cultivating intelligence and of articulation of intelligence do find a correspondence.
Observing again and again the spectrum of countable moments in my log, I find, among many, a thread that weaves it all into one growing sense. Now, how to call it? Is it intimacy in action? An intimacy that makes the stuff of everything mine?

    Making it personal

We love life, strongly and passionately; we love till it erases the distinction, while providing us the momentum to make it personal and distinctive.
Making it personal means to make it ours, not in the sense of possession, which would really be a poor thing, but rather to make it ours in the pure subjective sense.
This is, in a manner of speaking, where our universality is to be found. All of our kinds and styles of minding, before being about something, are about minding.
The quality of minding, meaning, minding the mind in the appropriate fashion, results, as in Art, in an emerging substantial sense of unification - that of infinite uniqueness and infinite openness.

    In Substance as in Art

In Art as in Substance, a universe, or a verse is inflated to such a degree that it comes out so to say, it comes into being, standing on its own account.
The question then is: IS an expression of being like an expression of Art? If it is, then, the art of being and the substance of art are strongly related.
The world of art passes the stage of breaking through its limitations, by emptying the question of “what is Art?” allowing in that act an explosion of creativity and fertility.
And yet, we still carry the intimate knowing of what art is, as it reflects our core sense of pure subjectivity – the ultimate unification of openness and uniqueness.
Today I find a correlation between art, substance and the story of the singularity. And by all means there is an essential property that defines our activity as humans, our minding, and our tremendous effort to remain effective and affective as long as we breathe.
It is a sense, a taste, and a reflective experience that emanates the smell of our sweat and yet we are not there, actually nothing is there.
And in that sense the story of the singularity is no less and no more then a means, a better platform for the art of being and the substance of Art to approximate itself.
And on the same token, as art frees itself from essentiality, and by that act opens itself for an explosion of the creative force, the story of the singularity does the same to the Human, emptying the question of “what is a human?” opening by this act a door for occurrence of a new mind and forcing us humans to cultivate the sense of ourselves in alter dimensions.
Is this a crack, or am I hallucinating? A crack for a new story? For a fresh tradition? It is through this window of understanding that I draw again the very confidence in what and how I am: an evolutive adventure.

A crack, for what? Remains the key question

We do love life and if so we do love the idea of a singularly rushing crack for upturning non-negotiable set-ups.
And here, exactly here, there is a space, a room, a crack calling for dreamers, visionaries, storytellers, designers, philosophers to step forward and to take this crumbling world of man upon the wings and waves of their tales.
We love the singularity, the story of the singularity, and as in the beginning and end of days we care for one thing, that which optimizes our singular sensation – that which approximates us to the flow of pure subjectivity in which universals are being born.
We can call it “A brave mind singularity” as Wildcat put it, and this is after all a narrative we do know intimately. In that extending the moment of now, making the future our home and shaping space, seems for a moment a sane poetry.
And so when facing the so called fact of being mortal and a possible incoming sense of immortality, I remind my self, that this way or that way I am the same.
And yet, that sameness when wound deep within the emerging contemporary mind wave, that distilled sense, yields the very freedom to embrace, to partake, in a life, which becomes no more and no less then art.

    Towards a unified horizon?

In simple terms, either we make this emerging future our home, our Polytopia, or we will most probably slow the realization of our visions and diverge from where the flow at the edges of humanity is gathering and pointing.
This way or that a new platform of initial conditions of being, with less and less limiting factors, will eventually arise, somewhere.
It is a process of re-birth we should adapt to, shaping our edge in relation, while creating our location in correspondence.
It seems an inevitable matter of time that we make this radical intersection as a fitting medium for our minding. Extending our playground to include that intersection and the mind-wave that corresponds with it… and allow ourselves a re-birth.

And so I open eyes to a landing perspective, and once more my reflection is, that the amazing thing about the singularity, the Story of the singularity that is, is in the way it affects us.
And from this landing perspective the singularity indeed has already happened. We are now at the first stage of the post mind singularity era and the curve of accelerating change is indeed accelerating but the context of it happening, aside of technology, is us and the mind of us.

The Singularity Has Indeed Already Happened

And so, in a manner of speaking this is my Montevideo, with which I begin to count anew my log.

first reaction, I simply love this, poetic and visionary, thank you for this piece. (I have sent it to the Polytopia project).

I really like the Montevideo metaphor but more particularly for me at least is the integration of the artistic perspective into a global vision. Most of my artist friends have a tendency to be so preoccupied with their own world that they forget that they exist in a continuous contextual world where their art makes sense (or should I say, should make sense?).

second reaction will come, worry not..;-)

Thank you for your very warm words and for uploading it into the Polytopia Project, as this was my intention. And yes, no world is an island:-), but seriously speaking the term artist in my eyes is indeed pointing to a bridging, in the sense that I understand being an artist as a style or manner of making sense, to be a bridge in between worlds. One way to understand a Polytopia. And again thank you for your welcoming…

Reading... reflecting... This is a beautiful piece... emoting... intelligenting...
whenever beauty enters the picture, I am changed, yes, changed, and this piece of beauty becomes intimately part of me... eeringly letting me know I am more than i am. ah... more finely reflective, more known and unknown to myself.
I find these qualities in what you wrote here, and i find this text indeed shaping a path for Singularity to travel from the plane of 'outer' concept and a 'shelf-future' to the heart of my being, to the intimacy of my minding.
I believe this is indeed an instance of the transformative event we are. it is affecting and it is challenging the underlyig foundations of which our stories emerge. Thank you.

Thanks Xaos for an artfully weaved, and touching post. i find that many threads are coming to my mind while reading this, which i will surly follow. but the first thing that captures my mind is a sense, or an emotion of accessibility, of connection, a bridge between the 'future' and emerging unknowns, to the intimacy and momentariness of my mind and minding. a key of sorts for how to approach with a new manner of participation this fascinating prospect of singularity. as you said: 'the amazing thing about the singularity, the Story of the singularity that is, is in the way it affects us.'
and while reading your 'story' i think: the amazing thing about a story is the way it affects us.
so thus i am, affected and connected :)

It is a pleasure to read your comments; they are definitely shedding a sharper light, in my mind, upon the issue at play. Few more are the lines emerging.

For me the encounter with the story of the singularity is first and foremost of an emotional nature, I did recognize a kind of emotional “meltdown”, within which an emotional broadband sleeve does emerge making the virtual “strange” horizon a land to walk.

It is the emotional sleeve that serves as lively platform, exciting and tunneling consciousness to appear in the scene in an active “warmer” fashion. Bringing the ‘outer’ (out there) into the ‘milieu’ of the reflective contour of intelligence.

    Your thoughts?

Thanks Xaos for the pleasure of this insightful post.
The more i read it the more it opens a variety of vistas into the emergence of a polytopian topos or landscape. It is true, at least for me, when one begins to include the Story of the singularity within possible reach of the mind horizon, and really, intimately, ponders on it, it really can hit you in a kind of "emotional meltdown" as you put it.

The act of inclusion of the correlation you point at, between art, substance and the story of the singularity, is an open invitation to take a trepidant step out to that new platform you describe, which at times seems to appear, taking the aspect of a form, and then becomes transparent and almost invisible to human eye again. but it is there, beckoning... This puts us nakedly in front of the choice to take that step and include the new playground, as our mind evolves, as does "our minding and our tremendous effort to remain effective and affective as long as we breathe", as you so beautifully put it. And yes, that's emotional.

Curious that you call it an emotional "sleeve". Yet truly it does give that sense of the mind intelligence cuddling smoothly into a flexible, warm, unknown, enhancing sheath, thus gaining readiness, alertness, suppleness and strength, rather than going "out in the cold" towards a possibly brittle, unprobed, unprepared for arisal, and that too can catch the emotion, in a different way. So, it's like opening the mind set for the absorption of a new platform, offering a caleidoscope of open ended options ie. an inner jump in complexity of reflection...

Isn't the question here though, how does our emotional makeup cope with and hopefully evolve with the intersection we are at?

Venturing, so to speak, so far beyond the curtain of our sight, so far that we need to adapt to a present that has very little roots in memory, so many in vision, how is the sleeve upheld?

    Hello Fast T,

"Isn't the question here though, how does our emotional makeup cope with and hopefully evolve with the intersection we are at?"

And in today already walks tomorrow. ~Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Metaphors, before they are a concrete form of meaning, serve us in language by taking us (consciously speaking) to the edge of sense, allowing an exposure of dynamics of thought into its possibilities. This is where I see the role of emotional sleeve as meaningful, providing, bottom up, the platform and ecology for intelligence to come forth in creative ways.

In the light of the above, what I wish to express in Montevideo is that the effect of the story and Myth of the singularity ignites an event, a Meta kind of event (and in this sense it is already happened and in happening). In which and with which we are in becoming.

The giant Greeks use the term ‘wonder’ allowing them to step beyond the edges of existing knowledge, unleashing the thought to explore its possibilities. Understood in this sense our emotional make-up is equipped not only with reminding us who we are but with becoming a today that entails a tomorrow, how else?

Fast T     Fri, Nov 14, 2008  Permanent link
Xaos, your last comment ties beautifully with one of my thoughts in these regards, that the emotional sleeve is entwined with vision.

I would like to propose that it is vision that streamlines emotions with consciousness expansion.

In that, telling the story of Singularity, as you put it: “ecology for intelligence to come forth in creative ways” weaves a meta-thread in the forward facing wave of our becoming, and it is where our substantiation thickens.
In that, somewhat poetically speaking, our future is at present.
notthisbody     Sat, Nov 15, 2008  Permanent link
First, great post and polylogue! you've brought something I am passionate about - storytelling.

The Singularity that we are going through we are indeed shaping as we ourselves develop it. We are interacting through tele-synaesthesia, an extension of our senses into cyberspace.

Our senses and tele-senses are the way in which we form an understanding of our mental and physical environment, and are built on metaphorical devices by nature that translate our environment into a coherent whole.

Metaphor, as is beautifully said, serves to take us "to the edge of sense, allowing an exposure of dynamics of thought into its possibilities"

Our subjective experience is defined by (1) sensory (and tele-sensory) interaction with our environment, (2) emotional response and (3) rational response.

Metaphor is rooted in sensations using it as a dialect to map emotional response. Since our tele-synaesthetic senses are expanding, any consciousness expansion within cyberspace must streamline with our increased ability to tap into "base" subjective experience and emotions.

I propose that this emotional reasoning can lead to a noetic understanding.

as says Wildcat in an early Polytopia post, "Because we are empathy infobodied".

I think that emotional empathic sharing of a subjective experience is vital for consciousness expanding (by which I define for myself as tapping into common, shared experience and thereby gaining experience and wisdom from it)

You have indeed integrated the artistic perspective into a global vision. I define my "art" as my desire is to share a subjective experience with others. That's why I want to be a storyteller, and explore new ways to share subjective experiences with others.

Through our storytelling, the experience of collective knowledge pathway exploration (which we are all doing), and sharing of subjective experience, we can and do indeed shape the future in the present.

When we are successful, we share our own (hard-fought-for) subjective experience and subjective understanding with others and can connect with them on a noetic level. Which ties in, Xaos, with what you said about an artist pointing to bridges between Topos in the Polytopia.

I think the emotional sleeve that we slide into is indeed what shapes our noetic understanding of our environment and existence, and what humanity has done and must continue to do through storytelling is to render accessible that subjective noetic understanding to others through empathic emotional methods.

    Well put, notthisbody.
This highlights much better than i did in my first comment to the space collective , what I think Xaos was pointing at in terms of us and our minds entering "this radical intersection as a fitting medium for our minding. Extending our playground to include that intersection and the mind-wave that corresponds with it... and allow ourselves a re-birth". I think it cannot but be empathic, in the sense that the emotional sleeve we slide into also acts as a connective tissue... In that sense, referring it to polytopia, can we think of it in terms of a concurrent re-birth?
Xaos     Wed, Nov 26, 2008  Permanent link
Hello notthisdody, and thanks for elegant, interesting and thoughtful proposition.

“I think that emotional empathic sharing of a subjective experience is vital for consciousness expanding (by which I define for myself as tapping into common, shared experience and thereby gaining experience and wisdom from it)”

It is for many years (like most of us) that I am dealing and dwelling in the issue of communication, as a vehicle for shared understanding and as a vehicle for bringing forth a ‘higher’ or new form of understanding our selves.

And as seasons pass by, aggregated eventually into lines of wisdom, it seems to me that communication in its high and complex sense is infinitely expensive (though I do not mean it in the sense of bad news as much as in the sense of stepping into what it takes). Which may be the main reason why we develop so many ways to bypass the ‘reality’ of communication.
We are placing subjective and unique views in objectifying methods and, at times, we tend to forget that the sole purpose of it is not objectifying a reality, as rather, serving a flow of becoming, a shared becoming.

Stories are, in this sense, an apparatus of coordinating forces that serve a narrative of and for communication. There are of course many narratives for communication but here I am pointing at the narrative that serves the open-ended situation of understanding ourselves.

I hope that it is in echo with your words as in my reading, communication, is that which in essence is softening the lines of separation, allowing in graceful moments a merging of shared understanding and autopoiesis.

So, Montevideo and the stance it entails, that the singularity indeed has already happened and is in-happening, is a subjective and unique view, no more and no less, and in that I see its universality.

Now, the question is, what, if at all, will make it a shared understanding in progress?
