The Edge of Extinction

lip liner paradise
sandy shoes filled
with ice cubes.
dumped onto the
patio with nowhere
to go but down.
into the woods,
to fill their satchels
with baked goods
and empty highlight reels.
but they already know
how it feels to be the best.
alone at the top,
with nowhere to go
but down.
