    Human Emotion (in the future)
I'm currently planning a book. (yes, hello everyone first post) I don't feel like divulging too much, suffice to say it's science fiction set in the not too distant future. However it's my plan to try and hone in on the social aspects of life, while keeping up a pretty twisted world plot.

The biggest factor in the development of that side of life in the future will be emotion; as many could argue it is today, and how the development of new technologies (perhaps telekinesis?) will be warped by the heightened ability to cushion or prolong life.

Another interesting idea is that people will build their own utopias, perhaps a move back to fundamentalist religion in the ever so threatening face of science.

(general chemistry question: as our brains are a collection of atoms, like the rest of everything else, and they behave in a very predictable manner (duno about quantum mechanics too much myself... but i mean if we had the technology) could it not be possible to simply map out / predict the reactions and movements of every atom, possibly in reverse too?, for all existence and thus there'd be a single very much set in stone (and everything else) future..?)
-just something i was wondering about...

my question to all of you is this:

what are your predictions for the volatility of human emotion in the ever increasing grey world that is covering this earth? 20, 50, 100 years...

Honestly, if the trend in social relations I'm noticing (based on my own observations) continue the way I imagine it to be, I think people will most likely develop increasingly and selectively apathic towards one another.

With the advent of social networking sites and media sharing, it seems to me that people with access to internet and cellphones are becoming highly choosing in their human interactions. So, if you don't correlate with my interests or values, to me you're not worth spending a lot of time with you. It's simply not efficient of my time and fleeting interest levels.

The classical nuclear family model will probably continue to dissolve some more. I get the impression that people are caring a lot less of their close and extended family, more about close or distant friends.

I'm not saying people will stop experience joy, happines, friendship and positive emotions but our descendants will probably experience a vastly different social environnement from our parents generation of the pre/post baby-boom of the 50's.

Electronic networks and virtual realities really came and changed everything.
