Zuhaitz Jauna

Scenario:
_Embracing of the Basque tradition - “El Señor Arbol” as symbol of founding roots, vitality and protection.
_Figuring of the patriarch as Tree of Life - interconnecting respect, love and family values in this center piece for client’s new home.
_Emulating dendrochronological formations, interconnecting the DNA of family tradition by layering incredible amounts of custom cut panel sections.
_Creation of tree-trunk / branch-like patterns using concave and convex strategies to nurture functional “fruit” bearing storage systems.
When introduced to the client and her family, their underlying importance in family tradition and value building was most evident. This noble attitude preceded the driving force for the conceptualization of the project, and what was initially only a subject intention to consider as a philosophical ingredient, has eventually engulfed, hands-on, the entire design process from origin to end. The intimacy of this recognition unveiled the substance of the client’s family bond - directing to her husband’s Basque background as founding stone that bestows the secret of “Zuhaitz Jauna” (or El Señor Arbol) in him. This infinite responsibility and pleasure, as patriarch of the family is inscribed in each building block, as a future dendrochronological time-line, ensured by the client’s loving intention, one-by-one, manifesting her careful projection of tradition building. Zuhaitz Jauna is their own “Tree of Life”, their own connection of heaven and the world - a most elegant way to place the symbolic foundation of their family in their new home.
