    Giant diamond floating in space

Fifty light years away is a GIANT DIAMOND, supposedly the largest in the galaxy, weighing five million trillion trillion pounds, and measuring four thousand kilometers in diameter.

The astronomers have named it "Lucy" in honor of the Beatles song "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds".

Lucy is a "crystallized white dwarf"— the heart of a now-dead star. The sun, they say, will go the same way: "Astronomers say that our Sun will die in five billion years and become a white dwarf too. About two billion years after it will turn into a similar diamond that will continue to sparkle in the center of the solar system forever."

How cool is that??? I love crystals!

i imagine a time lapse movie of it happening. Strangely making death seem beautiful.

    Hmm... how enticing.

I love crystals, too — keep a sack of some of my favorites on me at all times. I have a suspicion that their structure is a manifestation of consciousness unfolding perfectly.

Plus there's the Diamond Sutra, take from it what you will. Perfect, impenetrable, enduring forever. What a beautiful fate.

“In the heavenly abode of Indra there is a net stretching into all directions. In
each "eye" of the net is a jewel which reflects all other jewels, and is reflected
in all other jewels. It is like many mirrors reflecting in each other, multiplied
    endlessly, with infinite reflecting.”

A fascinating possibility. It reminds me of the diamond at the center of Jupiter in the Space Odyssey series.
