Fifty light years away is a GIANT DIAMOND, supposedly the largest in the galaxy, weighing five million trillion trillion pounds, and measuring four thousand kilometers in diameter.
The astronomers have named it "Lucy" in honor of the Beatles song "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds".
Lucy is a "crystallized white dwarf"— the heart of a now-dead star. The sun, they say, will go the same way:
"Astronomers say that our Sun will die in five billion years and become a white dwarf too. About two billion years after it will turn into a similar diamond that will continue to sparkle in the center of the solar system forever."
How cool is that??? I love crystals!

My friend Jenna posted this BEAUTIFUL ballet video on her blog, and I must share.
Where did I hear or read that "dance is the purest of art forms, because the art and the artist are one"?
I wish I didn't spurn the ballet lessons that my parents tried to bring me to when I was younger; I wish I had that grace, fluidity, fine muscle control, and flexible bones, like a cat!

space is cold and dark
and this orbit's getting boring
nobody near to talk to
hello
is there anyone out there?
save our souls
cure this cosmic loneliness

A poem I wrote a while back. Inspired by a handout from a Physics class entitled "Physics & Astronomy For Pedestrians" ... yeah my uni has the funniest classes! Anyway this handout listed "to cure cosmic loneliness" as one of the reasons why we continue to search for alien life forms. I was so amused at the term. :)
