i found this artist and was impressed by the intensity of the images, questioning ideas of being human in relationship with the booming life sciences:
from
www.dieter-huber.com:
"My interest in the issues of gene technology and manipulation are found in the KLONES, begun in 1994. At that time, it wasn’t such a fashionable catch-phrase. In fact, most considered it to be „ridiculous“ and completely useless in the context of art. This work could only be shown much later.
The large, international exhibitions and the discussions of „ethical issues“ followed years later as well.
I have taken the basics of genetechnology, that is the availability of the substance (the gene), its analysis (mapping, HUGO) through its adaptation and creation (mutation, improvement and engineering) and brought it into the context of art. The motives of people, plants and landscapes, initially produced in an analog process, are digitalized. The fragments are reworked on a computer and constructed into the initial image idea. The final product is a simple, two dimensional, analog photograph."
