    First, the earth model should have an specific relationship to the ground, add a ground plane. Secondly, your earth model should not float, its form will be influenced by forces on earth... gravity. Finally, I think there should be less space between your volumes, more like a braid less like overlapping strips. When you are formally appling the ramp component think CINCHING.
