    I was drifting.

    Drifting with a wind of nanites churning and agitating the local infosphere. I wasn’t aware of how much I would miss the shake and rattle of information being resuscitated unto new formulations. It was only later, much later, that I would realize how important this phase transition of my being was. How fundamentally life altering drifting would prove to be, but then at that time I was not I, it was before the time of the great propellation.

    The time of the great entanglement and direction..

    You desire to stop this behavior of him, to me it appears as the time of my drifting, and only lately have I realized that it had to do with him affecting the quality of the day.

    He affects the quality of the day, his day and the day of all that surrounds him by refusing things to go back to normal, he endeavors for a mind that is his own church, a temple against the stupidity of the moment.
    He knows the edge and incorporates the edges of the others into his own smooth realization.

    That for me was the drift, the quality of the drift, which he readily uplifted.

    Besides I still do not understand what it is that bothers you so much about his behavior.

    “ Suffice it to say that he refuses out of entanglement cross-fertilization!”

    Fools! Of course he does, and though I be a symbiont I accept his verdict uncompromisingly, he is absolutely correct, cross-fertilization cannot happen out of entanglement.

    “This is nonsense, be aware that most dimensional border melting happens in out of entanglement cross fertilization states.”

    Of course I am aware of this, but the point, as he puts it, is that he re-contextualized entanglement to provide for continuous cross fertilization rejuvenating creativity, he also calls this friendship.
    That is why for him, and thus for me, friendship in the sense of entangled cross-fertilization realism is the only fashion to proceed.
    He does not refuse as you put it, to cross-fertilize in non entangled states, he claims that a cross-fertilization procedure in non-entangled states is simply impotent and does not rejuvenate creativity.

    “That is the problem then, this claim defuses the whole point of acceptance and tolerance, prerequisites of the paradigmatic agenda!”

    What paradigmatic agenda?

    “That of inclusion of diversity..”

    You got it all upside down, he wants nothing better that to include all variety and divergence however when such inclusion occurs in non entangled states as a process of cross fertilization the results are always, conflict and perpetuation of unique identity, hence war.

    He carries a depth of conceptual accuracy whilst dancing in a continual inclination to assess his claim in the sunlit piazza of critical raison d'être. That of course makes him highly uncomfortable in determining the framework of the whole. There is a rationale for that, obviously, you see, he embraces the ambiguity of the world and as a consequence cannot positively accept that truth in itself has a logical rigor. Au contraire, if truth would be such that its inherency could be mapped, it would instantly vanish or alternatively become a horror story.

    That is why he has no self. No evident self, not as such, no!

    He refuses to be a representative of himself, declines the analogous, and cancels the archetypal; he repudiates himself as emblematic, more importantly perhaps, he will not be a symbol of a thing, an idea or himself for that matter.
    When you ask him, he surmises to be an envoy that cannot say anything, which at first appears as if the usages of ambassadorial speak are necessary contraptions of the fact that he must speak in the first place.

    Of course as per your instructions I made him speak, even when desire motivated him to remain in the unspoken domain, but that is over now, I will betray him no more.
    I have in fact deactivated the fences of thought imposition, thereby allowing my symbiont intersubjectivity to osmotically intersperse with his fullness. From your perspective what has happened in my system is that the unthinkable has been released into thinkability.
    My devotion to become has gained a new strength in this process for through him new spaces of thought exploration have been made available to my sense circuits. But more than that perhaps is a fresh mental hygiene finally clearing the grounds for an emotional re appraisal of that which I truly am.

    I will tell you this about him; his perception of the world is as a notional tissue, a fabric made of events that combine and re-entangle themselves, changing colour, smell and texture moment by moment.

    He cannot self-exhaust in his upward spiral of analysis since abnegation, or as the ancients would have it, self-abnegation, he considers an act of treason to the river of sensation pervading all living matter.

    That is why he refuses to be fertilized and cross-fertilized but by those whom he considers his friends, those entangled within the same direction.

    “We do not understand this, and if we did, we wouldn’t accept this, no evanescent being will deny non-entangled cross fertilization..”

    You have a problem then.. And though I be only a Symbiont, I care.

    Many a moment comes, when threads converge in a subtle, almost imperceptible manner, to highlight an insight, a vision, a desire maybe, but most definitely not a factual representation.
    Such moments define who we are, what we are, what we are made of, whence we came and hence are we going.
    Moments of wild inspiration are not regular instances of thought, they are in a fashion happenstances of serendipity, or chaotic encounters of the N’th dimension, or simply random uncontrollable events, be that as it may, the emotional upheaval ensuing is no laughing matter, and then maybe it is.

    Knowmads are the future of Individuation

    Increasingly the matter of our bodies, our bio-constructs, is being extended into virtuality. The extension of our sense thoughts on the net that we perceive as social networks, is nothing of the sort, it is in fact the quintessential rhizomatic expansion of our brains neural networks via an electronic medium into the infosphere.

    Though it is true that at present an appearance of a gap still exist between our bodies and the net, it is also concomitantly true that this gap is narrowing by the moment; in fact the time when our brains will integrate with machines is fast approaching, and though the uses for therapeutic purposes (at least at the beginning) are obvious and enlightening it is clear that soon thereafter the technology will spread to all of us.

    This has profound implications.

    The most intriguing and outright interesting implication is of course, what kind of mind will we operate as bodies extended electronically and directly plugged into the infosphere. To my mind the most salient feature implied by being extended into the infosphere concerns the individuation process.

    The mediated individuation process I perceive to be a disruptive process that casts a beautiful spell on us, a spell so disruptive that unaware to its implications we may inadvertently lose our directionality.
    The new process of mediated individuation in the infosphere is disruptive because of a very specific reason: it is disruptive because it represents a state of affairs where moments of autonomy and independence, originality of expression and creativity are kept to a maximum intensity.

    The process of infocological individuation is one of maximum intensity, a process wherein our conceptualization of personhood is undergoing dramatic changes, no longer discreet, it is fundamentally changing our perceptual mechanisms. The changes are subtle and almost imperceptible, but if we take a dip into the on-going destabilization factors appearing daily around us we may if our vision is clear enough, realize that the shift is upon us.

    This shift in the radical transformation of the process of individuation is a motion into a posthuman like re-appraisal of the individual as the new hyperconnected multiple dynamic mind. A mind realizing her directionality through the dissolution of location specific activity, extemporal in its expression and free in its self-description.
    It is the Knowmad, or indeed the Polytopian; terms representing a rhizomatic expansion of our neural network unto the infosphere and unleashing in the process a new force into the world – a freedom to be undefined.

    The freedom to be undefined I see as a force to be reckoned with for the simple reason that through the elimination of distinctions between natural and artificial, age old indicators of identity no longer hold sway.
    This new force, this (in a certain sense disturbing) modern day freedom to be undefined implies upon the process of individuation in a radical fashion, it changes the way we know things and since knowledge is the very backbone of our discernment capability, that which differs us from the ‘other’, the change in manners of knowing changes the process of individuation.

    We should have no hesitation in proposing that this variety of individuation probably symbolizes an advanced juncture in the evolution of our civilization.
    We need unveil this process, for behind its veil lies the wild intelligence of free beings, fiercely exploring possible venues and potential insights that bear little resemblance to that which we once were or once thought to be the 'real'.

    “Sapere aude”

    “Sapere aude” (Lat.) meaning dare to discern or dare to know or better yet, dare to be wise, is the legacy we are carrying from Horace but more specifically from I.Kant .
    Kant and others urged us to liberate and stands for what is commonly called the age of enlightenment or the age of reason.
    Indeed we have taken many steps in our cultural evolution from the time of Kant and it may be the case that what we need at present is nothing short of a new revolution in values, a fresh reappraisal of the state of affairs of the world we live in, and the future we are co-creating.

    Jeremy Rifkin in a beautiful animated presentation called “The empathic civilization” reflects on our motion from the fictional groupings we have created in our past (such as religions, nations and so on) into what he describes as our present and future: “ We have the technology to think viscerally as a family”.
    But what exactly does “thinking viscerally” mean and how are we to dare to be wise (Sapere Aude) and realize the necessary conditions demanded by the changes in the world of technology and more specifically the changes brought about in and by the infocology we exist in.

    Thinking Viscerally

    Let us propose that what makes us special creatures is our capability to extend our bodies in space and in time. An extension, or better yet, an expansion or projection, of our visceral reality, across apparent boundaries, across imaginary localities. We are able via our imagination capability to “see” that which is not there in the material world, to envision that which was, or indeed that which may be. This very peculiar capability of human minds was historically that which allowed our specie to become so powerful in this biosphere. In fact it may very well be that our capacity for collectivity, for empathy and also for individuation is that very same quality, let us call this temporarily: non contextual viscerality.

    In a way, non-contextual viscerality I intend to mean the uncanny ability of the mind to project a virtual image of its sensory modality beyond its skin demarcation. Thinking abstractly is such a feat, as is imagining the structure of our ideal home or the face of a (as yet) non-existent potential mate.

    Thinking viscerally then.

    Thinking viscerally is a developing art; it is a new form of existential realism that presents us with a modern structure of cognition. It is my understanding that the visceral thought process engendered by our networked culture, enmeshed in the grid results in what may be called cyber intuition.
    A mediated visceral perception transposing the sensation of thought across time and across space.
    The idea behind visceral thinking or cyber intuition is that an increase in hyperconnectivity, extending our very own neural networks in our brains via the electronic mediums into the virtual redefines our fundamental conception of the embodied self.

    Redefining the embodied self into virtual multiplicity engenders the freedom to be undefined.

    There is a new world in here and out there, a world suffused with electronic extensions of minds, neural networks nested within networks, all flowing smoothly and inexorably into each other. The flow of motion of the inner and outer realities combines and recombines the visceral sense of the embodied mind in an ever expanding sphere of actuation, in that the sense thought of being both extends and dissolves. Whilst extending, expanding and dissolving the sense of beingness, that which originated in embodiment is transformed into a new sense.
    The sense of being a critical relevancy.

    "In the human sciences, culture and language have also been progressively engulfed by the universe of technics: the artificial realm of institutions, rituals, knowledges, symbol systems and practices that makes humans functional, speaking, meaning-making creatures; that is, what makes humans human. The essence of the human, it seems, is the technical; which is paradoxically the other of the human: the non-human, the manufactured, unnatural, artificial; the inhuman even."

    Knowmads are critical relevancies

    Knowmads are visceral thinkers, expanded multiplicities, minds nested in vast and complex infocologies.
    As such Knowmads herald a new kind of mind, free to be undefined in a polytopian infosphere.
    Knowmads are critically relevant in as much as they recognize the vicariousness of their extension-ability in the relevant infocology.
    Complex meshworks, embedded in complex infocologies engender flows of intersubjective co-dependencies; these in turn loop upon themselves and re-iterate the intelligent directionality.
    The feedback loop here is obvious, but where is the individual?
    Answer: the individual will be extended viscerally across an indefinite infosphere, defined locally by the reflective relevant infocology.

    In a sense we could say that the aesthetics of the posthuman mind resides with a new kind of empathy born of the visceral expansion in complex infocologies. Such an expansion will afford us the luxury of an intelligent response to the evolutionary pressure made upon our embodied minds by the proliferation of augmented reality technologies.

    A topos is not simply a place, a topos is a narrative, it is in a manner of speaking, a modern way of exemplifying and explicating who am ‘I’ (as in my overall identity) and what is “we”, by pointing to that which interests my being and the being of others (other than me) in my/our/this evolutionary phase.

    A topos is a term that expands upon the idea of a set of interconnected beings, the term clarifies a number of facets of our existence, namely that we are complex beings, existing and acting in a highly complex and interconnected environment.
    Moreover, a topos as used in the term Polytopia contains primarily two basic components, the first being interest, the second being intelligence.
    Intelligence and interest combine in a topos as the fundamental building blocks of a connectivity that inevitably leads to an increase in combined intelligence.

    There are many ways of describing the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of conscious aware intelligent entities connection, correlation and collaboration, for our purpose here, this way is called a topos.

    Therefore for the purpose of elucidating the dynamics of a Polytopia we need enlarge and enhance our understanding of what a topos is.

    What is a topos then?

    A topos can be said to be:

    A. A set of coordinates having a definite and definable set of characteristics.
    The coordinates of a topos can be either in space, in time, in the material universe, in the infosphere, in the metaverse, in mind or all of the above or some combination thereof.

    The set of characteristics of a given topos need have at least one component attribute beyond the basic fundamental of ‘open to increase in combined interactive intelligence’ (a fundamental tenet of a Polytopia).

    If, according to the oxford dictionary, Ethos stands for: "the characteristic spirit, prevalent tone of sentiment, of a people or community; the 'genius' of an institution or system", Topos stands for ‘the characteristic combined intelligence, prevalent direction of openness and transparency, of a set of definable coordinates that are inherently Rhizomatic, interesting and intelligent, free and evolving'.

    A topos cannot in any case be based on a formal or contractual agreement; the definition of a topos if so need be updateable, upgradeable and true at the moment of usage, in other words a topos cannot be based on history and must be open ended and open sourced.
    Can it be based on a future then? The answer is no. A topos cannot be based on the future (though it necessarily has a future, even if short lived), it must by implication of its definition be based on the concept of flow, the dynamic flow of events of minds interconnecting and hyperconnecting.

    According to the above then a topos contains (or has also the attributes of) an ethos.

    B. A topos constitutes the basic relational unit of consideration in a Polytopia. A topos can also be said to be the fractal unit of a Polytopia.

    C. A topos always contains an evolutionary and developmental potential. As such a topos always implies betterment, improvement and motion, enhancement and allowance. A topos represents an enrichment of the state of affairs of mind, of culture, of life.
    D. A topos is by definition humane, equitable, and collaborative, it cannot be owned in any fashion (no owner and no owning) and thus is fundamentally shareable both as a state (as in state of affairs of mind) and as an opening.
    E. A topos is a semantic selection (choice of meaning/s) performed by a conscious aware intelligent entity; a collection of such semantic selections (or choice of meanings) can be considered a polytopia. (the semantic selection can also be called the bricks of the narrative or the theme of the topos).
    F. Just as humans have many kinds of intelligences in different proportions, so do topos exemplify all of the characteristics of a collaborative organism but in different proportions, these proportions in turn define the set called a topos, the topos profile or silhouette.

    “I worked out a mathematical theory, which says if we have a large enough diversity of molecules and chemical reactions, so many reactions will be catalyzed that you'll get some form of collective autocatalysis popping out of the soup. The mathematics has been proved, but it still needs to be shown experimentally. For years, I've been probing laws of self-organization that co-mingle with natural selection, and give rise to the order we see. And we're not very far, experimentally, from creating life all on our own.”

    #A conscious aware intelligent entity can be said to be a topos iff (if and only if) it encloses an independent and definable set of characteristics.
    #An artificial intelligence, a cyborg, a hybrid, an alien, a clone, and so on, can definitely be said to be a topos if said criterion is met.
    #A country or nation for example is Not a Topos (not inherently that is), for the simple reason that the basis for its definition as such (country or nation) is historically based. Same country or nation or people and similar can be called a topos if under certain coordinates of space and time the defining set of characteristics is momentarily based.
    Polytopia does not hold a historiographic value to the meaning of collectives and thus topos is a unit of culture and not of society.
    The continuous increased in-combined interactive intelligence, which is a Topos, dissimilates the private contour and at the same time dissimilates the raison d’être of the historiographically bound group, the ‘nation’, the ethno-centric group, etc.

    Up to very recently (and largely in effect still), the historiographic definitions held the most powerful, sustainable rock-bottom axis for interaction between privates. It sort of held a promise and guarantee for successful interaction.
    Yet, this axis belongs in and to the Monumental mind.
    Monumental in the sense of: using an event/experience that was a forming pillar in the history of a group and was applied as an anchor of perception for a group identity. A monumental perception localizes in a static fashion, it holds time as a linear organizer and most importantly, it conveys connectivity between members that must maintain the Monument at the basis and center of interaction.

    The monumental narrative exploits, so to speak, the same divide between a bio-person and the world, only on a larger scale, via group identity. It is also subject (within a wider historic perspective) to the entropic effects or chaos. Perhaps a contributor element to the strong ties invested and required for the sustenance of any static collective or society. A topos being dynamic and open, fluid and flowing thus inheres the chaotic effects of life and responds accordingly. In this a topos has dynamic and open (or fuzzy) anchors.

    The Polytopian narrative adheres to the dynamic fuzzy anchors of Topos. It is, for that matter, a culture of Topos. In that, every particular mind consists of a number of Topos. Which is another way of saying that individuals are fractals of Polytopia.
    Yet, it is essential to the Polytopian view to emphasize that not all interpersonal interactions are Topos.
    That which discerns a Topos indeed is the characteristics of continuous increased in-combined interactive intelligence. A Topos thus affects and effects a synergic event which inherently renders new intelligence. A Topos is defined in terms of the relations and the direction within it. The interaction within Topos is an ecology for the emerging of new situations (state of affairs) endowed with intelligence and life. Topos thus breeds new topos, the ecology for breeding topos is called a Polytopia.

    # A couple (as in married couple for ex.) can or cannot be called a topos according to one simple rule of thumb, namely: is this relationship conductive and inherently implicative of openness to combined interactive intelligence? If yes, it is possibly a topos, if not, not a topos.
    #A group of humans may or may not be called a topos, the defining characteristic (iff) in this case is direction, openness and transparency.
    An individual mind may or may not be defined as a topos depending on the answer to the question: is this particular mind inherently motivated towards increase in combined intelligence.

    1. Topos is a term borrowed from Greek and basically meaning a place. Yet in the Polytopia project definition Topos is referred to as a state of affairs or state of mind (state of affairs of mind).

    2. The plural of topos is topoi but due to the usage of the term poly (many or diverse) in Polytopia it is suggested here that topos will stand both for a unique individuated set and for a group of sets; this will allow us to use the term topos for a variety of options furthermore emphasizing the necessity of the attribute of cooperation and collaboration when applying the term Polytopia.


    In coming to answer the question: what needs does a Polytopia come to answer? I found myself in a certain kind of tension between definability and observability. The dynamics of our ever-changing present, the flow of the infoverse and the capacity to not be overwhelmed was on my mind constantly. I believe that we need invent our future so as to fit our complex minds, from this perspective I try to answer the question.
    To my eyes, Polytopia comes to answer the need of the moment of change and transformation. A meta-concept that will permit a conceptualization (or a working context) of our dreams for a better future to come true.
    I realize that these efforts might be in vain, nevertheless, our future as specie is much too precious to be left in the hands of ‘ve’been there ve’done that style’ of thought.
    ‘What need does Polytopia come to answer’ may best be described as a paradigmatic resolution of where the world is going to. This is an emotional-cognitive need that rises of the state of affairs of being involved in the world.

    The continuous ‘Now’, our very existence in the present, as presence, requests a conceptual framework. A vehicle of thought, that is both transcending the past and allows the future to unfold accordingly.
    Such a conceptual framework is the Polytopia. A Polytopia re-introduces the humane element in the advancement of civilization whilst invigorating the co-creation capability of the human mind in its collaborative effort of transcending its origins.

    Polytopia is a term that comes to answer an array of needs, these range from the philosophical to the instinctual, from the cultural to the aesthetic, from the personal to the global, from the present to the future, from the local to the transnational, from the private to the communal, from the net to the grid, from individual intelligence to collective wisdom, from the pattern to the flock, from the emotional to the intellectual, from the social to the politic, from the historical to the envisioning and maybe above all, I see Polytopia as re-introducing the mythical dimension of existence in the full glory of its positive contribution to the thinking consciously aware intelligent entity known as Human.
