Where forward thinking terrestrials share ideas and information about the state of the species, their planet and the universe, living the lives of science fiction. Introduction
Featuring Powers of Ten by Charles and Ray Eames, based on an idea by Kees Boeke.
do you ever find it hard to express your perspective on something because you found a video on the Internet in which a greater being describes more succinctly, more comically, and more powerfully exactly how you feel on that particular subject?

    i do:

i guess all i can do is continue where Carlin left off. after all, he died a year ago and the times they are a-changin'.

for example, based on my observations from living on a liberal arts college campus for almost four years, it seems like the battle cry from environmentalists is no longer SAVE THE PLANET but rather SUSTAINABILITY, which actually recognizes what all the fuss is about. according to Wikipedia:

Sustainability, in a broad sense, is the capacity to endure. In ecology, the word describes how biological systems remain diverse and productive over time. For humans it is the potential for long-term maintenance of wellbeing, which in turn depends on the wellbeing of the natural world and the responsible use of natural resources.

sustainability isn't a rephrasing of "Save the Planet." it's a rephrasing of the underlying message in that motto: "Save Humanity." since we rid ourselves of the pretentious phrase, "Save the Planet," why don't we keep the ball rolling and cut some other nonsense out, like Earth Day. according to Wikipedia:

Earth Day is celebrated in the US on April 22 and is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment.

awareness and appreciation? if just being alive year in and year out hasn't inspired you to heart-stopping awe for the magnificence, elegance, and beauty of the world around you, is a whole day reserved for the planet really going to make you finally stop and wonder? i've got a big problem with reserved days, in general, because it might encourage everyone to not really care every other day of the year. only on April 22 will i breathe slowly and gasp at how many hairs a siberian husky has and shut my eyes in reverence of the sun and gulp down water with a happiness only stemming from hydrogen and oxygen. the rest of the time i will yell at people in traffic, curse myself for getting a molting creature as a pet, wear sunglasses, and chug liquid syrup.

i don't know where i'm going with this
