    Now playing SpaceCollective
    Where forward thinking terrestrials share ideas and information about the state of the species, their planet and the universe, living the lives of science fiction. Introduction
    Featuring Powers of Ten by Charles and Ray Eames, based on an idea by Kees Boeke.

    So it looks like there will be a new futurist-oriented magazine in the making. I have gotten together with two good friends (also designers and aspiring thinkers) and we are currently getting everything sorted out.

    It is still in the early stages, but here are some of the basics:

    • Not-for-profit—for fun and experience! (eventually we would love to pay contributors and ourselves for the time we put in, but for the time being we would rather charge the readers as little as possible).

    • Free (hopefully, if not, as cheap as possible without an over-abundance of advertising);

    • Strong online presence with 2–4 printed issues a year;

    • As sustainable as humanly possible;

    • As global as we can make it;

    • Dedicated to new advances and experimentations in every aspect of our culture;

    • Ever-evolving dependent on content and context;

    There's not much else specific I can say as the ideas are still being formed, but I should have a more solid direction to present within the next couple of weeks. I already have a lot of things in mind when it comes to content (not a small amount coming from SpaceCollective participants, should they be willing) and we will be making some calls for entries once we get to that point.

    For now though, I really want to know:

  • What would you like to see in a magazine?

  • What would make you pick it up, save it, and keep your eye out for the next issue?

  • There seems to be a lot of magazines these days, and while I love a magazine, there are few that interest me enough to actually want to buy. What would set a new magazine apart in your eyes from the rest of the drivel currently out there?

  • Which—if any—magazines do you currently appreciate, and why?

  • Would you possibly be willing to contribute your talent (writing, art, design, music, etc) on a one-time or ongoing basis to such a publication? Without monetary compensation? (The aim of course would be to pay contributors what they deserve, but unless somebody throws down a pile of cash somewhere, we've got to start modestly)

  • Your input is valued above any other and ideally this publication should appeal to you, so any input you can give us before we get much further in the process will really help us in the long-run.

    Thanks everyone!
