    Texas and the explorers
Day 63 of the years project and some notables of the travels.

I am in Texas right now after an all night/all day drive and am feeling pretty positive about this project. It is not as warm here as I would have hoped but I am thankful it is not as hot here as I remember. Dallas tonight, Houston tomorrow followed by two days in Austin before moving on to Florida, Georgia and New York City...

Two days ago we came across an abandoned hotel outside of Memphis and found our inner twelve year olds who did their best to shake the (somewhat) professional adults who had been driving for the last two-hundred miles on three hours of sleep. They took us back to the fears of monsters in the dark and the fears of being caught. We became the rooftop explorers that we never had the chance to be while growing up in the Alaskan wilds....

Three days ago, and one day before our hotel visit, we were in St. Louis. I have never really loved St. Louis until this night. I don't know why that is but am happy to have finally ventured below the surface of this city. Somehow the night here brought us to a college party at a co-op where I was pleasantly surprised by the themed costumes of "space". The interpretation of the theme by drunken college students and non-students seemed to be this wild mix of science fiction and fantasy crammed into neon spandex and bright wigs. Laser guns and light up toy sceptres were accessories alongside red keg cups and pabst cans. The LARPers had found the american apparel.

All in all, photo hunts have been a success. Lets hope they all turn out! I will post a few as I develop. My nephew and back home in Willow is the first of many....
