Where forward thinking terrestrials share ideas and information about the state of the species, their planet and the universe, living the lives of science fiction. Introduction
Featuring Powers of Ten by Charles and Ray Eames, based on an idea by Kees Boeke.
This class talks a lot about what it would feel like to be in zero-gravity. I believe that this feeling can be achieved in numerous ways, from actually matching the acceleration to altering motions relation to time. I am interested in the latter. Assuming that the theory of relativity is accurate, it seems that the faster one moves, the slower those around him move, relatively. To feel as though you are in a lesser gravity, wouldn't you just need to spend more time in the air when you jump? If one could alter time or apparently alter time, it could create a new environment much like one based on space. The way we interact with our third dimension doesn't have to be that far from how we interact with the fourth.

    ONE
My first Proposal is an Immersive Video installation. Video will be captured and stored in blocks to allow a scanning through time, and a mixing of time. Ones relationship to the screens should determine what will be in realtime and what will be delayed. This project would require 3 projectors, and a camera or proximity sensors via arduino. The slit scanning video would be programmed in processing, and although this technique is not new, I would like to use it in a new realm, and create it from scratch to understand the workings of it.

    TWO
My second Proposal is another Immersive Video installation. Similar to the first concept, I would like to utilize slit scanning to speed and slow pre-recorded video, that will be projected on a single wall. The control of the speed of the film will be done by a sensor that reads the speed of a persons running/walking. A treadmill will be placed in the room and infront of a wall sized projection. The runner will attach the sensor and will control how the video relates to his or her running.

In reading the first chapter of this book, I found correlations between the concepts being written about and some art I recently encountered. The artist Keith Schofield explores time with techniques of optical illusions and slit scanning (introduced by Howard Greenlalgh).

MOCA::Art and the Femenist Revolution + Space?
While at the MOCA, exploring the WACK! exhibit, I pondered about the ability to create an alternate habitat in space and the current issues in our own habitat now. I wonder about the nature that exists here on earth, what feeds sexism, and is our current residence a variable. Would a weightless world create less of a physical difference? I could not think of a good way of taking advantage of the new environment to push equality, but I also don't believe in an "equality". I think that arriving at a respectful state in this atmosphere should be no different, but that perhaps one could argue that the laws of nature here have aided in the creation of these biases.

Just thought I would put it out there that social issues could be rethought along with the physical nature of entering space.

The images captured on film explore time through its subtle movements. This exploration of nature in film and its focus on a single point of view allow the viewer to see past the simple beauty of the nature and develop or realize patterns that arise.

    Nintendo Wii
The remote for this relatively new game system utilizes gyroscopic sensors and accelerometers to allow for a very accurate input and output experience for the user. The development of the hardware has forced game creators rethink how why they make games and what purpose they serve. So far, all those that interact with the Wii are finding out what they want from the new capabilities.

    Apple iPhone
Apple seems to be the first mainstream company to utilize this new multi-touch interface. Electronics will allow the user to control them in a much more intuitive and interactive method via touch.

    For touch sensitive electronics

Our immersive electronics have already demanded an evolved design for gloves. The design of all products must be rethought in form for their amended function.
