Comment on Binaural Beats

I have experimented on a few occasion with binaural beat frequencies combined with meditation style music. Audio of this sort can be found here.

I've always been fascinated by pioneers of consciousness exploration such as Timothy Leary and Terrence Mckenna. My past mind altering experimentations have always had the good intention of learning from the experience in a way that could be instructive to my waking stasis.

Binaural beats have been an interesting tool as part of this consciousness expanding awareness. On substances such as THC, it was almost too much stimulus for me to handle and effected my sense of space and orientation.

Without such substance, the experience has been equally as deep but without the wild and sudden explosion of interconnnected thoughts, just a deeper awareness of my brain chemistry creating sound that I could focus or not focus on.

Overall it has been a very interesting experiment and will continue to find it useful in my endeavors.

My previous experiments have also taken a more traditional route, studying with a Native American shaman and being honored to take part in a vision quest, and shamanic drumming meditations. Shamanic drumming meditations have been the most powerful experience thus far (performed sans mind altering drugs). The shaman drummed while I laid on the ground for close to an hour. It was then I first learned about theta waves when I recounted the mind altering experience I had during the drumming ritual. A fellow practitioner explained that the overlapping resonance of the drum beats can induce a theta wave experience in the brain. This phenomenon was powerful, at least for me, as I had a very lucid out of body type of experience.

I do believe sound waves such as binaural beats can unlock a consciousness potential that exist in all of us.
