    The grey hole
Black holes were discovered because on periodic pictures taken of the night sky there were spots where you never had stars.

White holes are, according to wikipedia:

In astrophysics, a white hole is the time reversal of a black hole. While a black hole acts as an absorber for any matter that crosses the event horizon, a white hole acts as a source that ejects matter from its event horizon. The sign of the acceleration is invariant under time reversal, so both black and white holes attract matter. The only potential difference between them is in the behavior at the horizon.

Stephen Hawking said white holes are the same as black holes, once quantum mechanics is taken into account.

It just came to my mind, and probably to many others, that what you may have in reality is a grey hole. eg, a hole that functions like a valve. It can absorb or eject matter, according to the needs of that particular part of the universe.

You see, just like you can think of planets like if they were atoms, you could have a kind of a macro cell composed by stars, planets, comets, etc. Imagine, on the borders of this macro cell is a kind of "skin" where you have holes. Some of them are now acting as absorbers some are ejecting matter. Like the walls of a vein (?)

So by this perspective, they are not black holes nor white holes, they are "grey" holes, or better, valves. We just cant see them doing both things because they don't change quickly. Or perhaps we didn't yet find one that is changing his state.

The interesting part of all this would be trying to find the skin of the macro cell with the location of the holes. It would be like children do: connecting dots to get the picture :D
