Comment on Toys that make worlds

I am a game designer myself, and Spore was a huge disappointment...
the premise was everything I ever wanted from a game and I got anxious as we got closer of the release day. So, the game was out, and I played it 2, 3 times trying to force it...

It's an amazing creature-creation mechanism, but there's no much of a game besides that. It get stale real fast, it's boring, and even if you can create an infinity of alien creatures, they all look the same for some reason...

but even being a failure as an entertainment piece, I still agree that it's one of the most important games ever, especially because it deals with Darwinian evolution (it makes me sad that most of humanity still don't accept how nature works).

and then, we get to my major issue with Spore: the fact that you "buy" your body feats, and design your creature like you're decorating your house. that's not how evolution works, and I understand that one needs a degree of abstraction when making games, but I'm just sick of the "collect money, buy stuff" kind of game (think all the facebook apps).

there's more to life than just work hard to get as money as you can, and buy all the stuff you can...
sometimes I think humankind are unable to see beyond that :(
