joshTue, May 8, 2007 interesting point, but i think it is our innate 21st century desire to be individuals. scientifically illogical, maybe, but we no longer have a society built upon survival. a society (take ants for instance) who's primary objective is to help the good of the whole.
digging further — an interesting point that rene pointed out to me a while ago was the ideals of the christian religion. they made a point of separating members of society so that once a week they were brought together (in church), giving them a sense of community and belonging. then they were pushed away again and isolated, making that community experience more meaningful. perhaps you can blame our individuality on the christians?
