    rounding the sun
Everyone i've talked to in the past few days seems to hate new years, and the overwhelming distaste for this particular day got me thinkin.

Here we are on a wild ride round the sun, every day moving incrementaly closer to this date 1/1, till December 31st rolls around, and suddenly we're bracing ourselves for that moment when we make it all the way around this arbitrary placemarker on the Earth's orbital path once again. The start of another wild ride. You'd expect the Earth's rotation to pick up speed. It's quite beautiful really, We made it round again! And the Earth didn't fall out of the sky!
I suppose the irony of new years has mostly to do with the way it's often celebrated. You prepare yourself for a new beginning with lists of revisions to your character, your life, your plans, and
then you wake up, January 1st, a brand new day, a brand new year, and you're hungover.

But there's a great opportunity to embrace this strange symbolic eve and actually CHANGE the things you PLAN on changing THIS VERY NIGHT. I resolve to be a more fearless human. Can't wait to see how this plan pans out.

Well said! I noticed that too. You, however, have a better resolution than me. The only thing I could thing of was getting laid more often. I guess it is more of a wish than resolution... It is funny how ppl think so differently, yet so alike.

Hello, its good to see a post about the new year. I also dislike new years, and particularly this one. I think what makes me dislike this holiday season is that it makes me reflect on my current state of things. New Years makes this reflection even more difficult because its a holiday based on time. I don't know about you, but time stresses me out. I don't want to fee like wasting time or time and opportunity is passing by me.

What is the ideal relationship with time to strive for? I think experience/time should be optimized. Today I decided I am going to return my Christmas gift, because I am scared that it might be another thing that preoccupies me from experience.

When I say experience, I am referring to interaction with and contribution to the world and its inhabitants.

every day the world changes, and if you can change your world a little bit, you are already changing the world

richard: during my holiday travels i was reading wired magazine. there was an article about sleeping 20 minutes every few hours. after you have trained your body to do this, apparently you are more efficient, more productive and only sleep around 3 hours a day.

i went to the website to try and find the article with little luck. however, i did find another interesting article on the subject. apparently you can snort chemicals from your brain to stay awake and alert: read further

The New Year is kind of like a snake being surprised at the sight of it's own tail, thinking it a new one. Or a dog chasing it's tail and catching it.

Josh: The 20 minutes every few hours seems a bit intense, but it seems like a good fit for university students who could use breaks in between classes for little naps.

About the chemical snorting, I don't think I would ever get to the point where I need that. First I would try exercising, and then coffee, and then my diet, and maybe something else. Even though the nasal spray is from a naturally occurring hormone, I am still slightly afraid of the concept - it reminds me of cocaine.

Here's an interesting link I found about training yourself to wake up early:

As another note, something ironic sorta related to this post: I'm in the city of Talca, in Chile, right now. On new years day, an earthquake happened.

The night before, though? I fucking love new years', and people party like mad out here. So many people were still partying when I tried to get my drunk ass home at 12:00 noon!
