some kind of chaos theory thing, perhaps? these patterns remind me of those found within the Jurassic Park novel.

These are screen-shots from a real-time interactive fractal toy that I've been programming. I intend to make a user-friendly release within a month, but I don't have too much to say about it yet.

Sounds (and looks) exciting, keep us in the loop.

Let me tell you, I was Mike's roommate when he started making this last year, you should be excited about this. It is, Magnifiqu'e, Un-belala...

It is very impressive what Mike has managed to do, in my opinion.

    Fantastic!

What are you using to program it?

those isolated dots with circles remind me of wii-mote uses for it :D
it would be nice to have a 3 dimensional vision of a fractal as a space base to design wii levels for games, or just to explore the fractal worlds

or, imagine you could draw this image with several lasers on a building, but with 3D

or imagine the impact such a use could have on architecture as a designing experience on extending a building, on events, a party or so. You would have a new(?) concept of virtual building, where half was a real building and the rest was just a projection

and of course, a projection you could change and interact with :D

I think the algorithms could easily support a depth vector and thus be amenable to some sort of 3D fractal landscape viewer. Perhaps I'll try a simple red/blue color glasses 3D mode, and some day we might set up a full color 3D interactive installation ?

We've talked about getting it to work with the Wii for some time. I personally do not have the expertise to do this, but a good friend Keegan has a Wii remote partially working on a similar program ( I'll try to get him on spacecollective ) . I am working in Java ... if only there were a hack for getting a Wii remote into Java.

A laser projected fractal would be awesome. I cannot imagine how this might be accomplished. In general fractal features are nowhere differentiable. Perhaps the smooth curves of some strange attractors would work best ? Alternatively, perhaps a large bank of pulsed lasers could render a point distribution of a FLAM3 / ElectricSheep like fractal ?

We have played with projectors using an early prototype, indeed render's current user images consist of this program projected over his body.
