Chemistry of Tulsi (basil) and Zen Rock Gardens... Continued...
Project: Design Media Arts at UCLA

Tulsi is a sacred herb in India. It's medicinal and purifying qualities have been acknowledged for the last 5000 years. It is considered a healing balm for body, mind and spirit.

I have grown up around the belief in ayurvedic treatment and having basil leaves everywhere. I was told its suppose to creating a calming atmosphere, and a certain purity. When we took my mom to india for Ayurvedic treatment, I experienced and observed the effects of these methods first hand. The chemistry and relationship created with these plants and herbs was amazing.

    Medical Benefits

"enhances stamina, relieves inflammation, lowers cholesterol, eliminates toxins, protects against radiation, prevents gastric ulcers, lowers fevers, improves digestion and provides a rich supply of antioxidants and other nutrients. Tulsi is especially effective in supporting the heart, blood vessels, liver and lungs and also regulates blood pressure and blood sugar"

    Zen Rock Garden

"the garden can be a source of mental stimulation: the visitor is invited to look at the garden's simple shapes and objects and use his imagination. Do the rocks look like islands rising from the sea? Puffs of smoke? Clouds?

it also provides the visitor with a place to quiet his mind and get away from the distractions of the everyday world. No cars, no commercials, no Internet!"
It is this chemistry and relationship that I want to translate and create in a space colony. I think it would help us to keep our sanity and peace...
