Comment on Is Technology Destroying Humanity?

illuminatiscott Fri, Sep 4, 2009
I think that technology is perhaps the sole measure of human advancement. We are - at least as individuals - only barely more selfless, compassionate or thoughtful than we were millenia ago. But we have gone from fire to nuclear fusion, from crossing rivers in boats to breaching interstellar space, and from gathering berries to genetically engineering crops.

Agriculture destroyed the hunting-gathering lifestyle of humanity, and we view that as an improvement. Writing eliminated the culture based on storytelling. If modern technology destroys human life as we know it, we will adapt as we have always done, and fashion ourselves anew as something that our descendants will almost surely see as an improvement over what we are now.
