The system of banking [is] a blot left in all our Constitutions, which, if not covered, will end in their destruction... I sincerely believe that banking institutions are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity... is but swindling futurity on a large scale. – Thomas Jefferson

We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds...[we will] have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers... And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for[ another]... till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery... And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression. – Thomas Jefferson

The question then becomes.. what we do from here. We know of no way of judging the future, save by the past. The past shows many patterns, and we follow several at once.

And forgive me for quoting the next, but it was quoted by those same Founding Fathers.

... whenever the Legislators endeavour to take away, and destroy the Property of the People, or to reduce them to Slavery under Arbitrary Power, they put themselves into a state of War with the People, who are thereupon absolved from any farther Obedience ... [Power then] devolves to the People, who have a Right to resume their original Liberty, and, by the Establishment of a new Legislative (such as they shall think fit) provide for their own Safety and Security, which is the end for which they are in Society. – John Locke

Let us all declare absolution from our oppressors like ***Henry David Thoreau did. Only then will we know PEACE.
Thanks Gary, for keepin' it REAL (nobody does it better, baby you're the BEST)!!

"If the law is of such nature that it requires you to be an agent of injustice to another, then I say, break the law." ~Thoreau’s Night in Jail, July 1846

Could not agree more, a system of money where sourceless value can be moved from hand to hand tracelessly was begging to be exploited from the very beginning. There must be a better and more moral way of establishing a fair society than this where those who are, as garyhill says, exert more power than that of actual armed forces. Zeitgeist: Addendum gives an interesting and comprehensive overview of the US monetary system and its endemic flaws, worth a viewing

thanks tobyjm for bringing Zeitgeist to my attention, haven't seen the addendum to it as yet, but I will; thanks for reminding me.

Keep in touch and keep questioning the so-called authority, carry on my brother and sister—we are all children of the divine and NOT the government!

I talk from Brazil, so ... sorry about my "Tarzan" english.
The mass media keep sustaining the "positive scene" who have created whit Obama election.
In the USA, how about this scene are really going on?

Obama is keeping with the status-quo for now. It is highly unlikely that he will break away from his controllers and do what Kennedy did and take on the financial powers that be that control the system that controls the economy; but, that is still the hope—that change will take place, eventually.

There is now underway another "surge" of troops being deployed in Afghanistan.

And congress is still allowing banks and their lobbyists to win in congress, in the aftermath of an almost complete collapse of the economy—what is being called, A MELTDOWN OF THE ECONOMY—very devastating.
There were protest marches on Wall Street last week-end, April 3 & 4, thousands of people in the streets were accusing banks for the economic meltdown. People are angry and they are taking to the streets here and in London where an innocent man was falsely attacked and killed by angry riot police on April 1 for protesting the banking crisis meltdown there. People are even calling for AN END TO CAPITALISM!!
This is the major problem here now I would say.

Thank you for commenting—-Give my regards to Brazil and her beautiful rain forests and beaches.
Good luck with your English!

I really and truly think that you've all fallen into the conspiracy pit. Extremism is everywhere, but jeesh... You haven't even given the President TIME. He hasn't even been in office 100 days!

I watched both zeitgeist and the obama deception. the people who made the obama deception are utter lunatics. conspiracy nuts. they may have something on the federal reserve, but to reduce obama to a puppet is really insulting. that guy looked like he was going to start foaming at the mouth or drop dead of a massive heart attack for getting so riled up. and the scene with the "car following them" - OMG. i laughed so hard at that DECEPTION i almost fell out of my chair. there's deception everywhere, including from the people who made the obama deception!

I AM SORRY THAT YOU FEEL THAT I HAVE 'INSULTED' YOU, ON BEHALF OF YOUR FAITH IN THE CURRENT OBAMA ADMINISTRATION; moreover, I am TRULY sorry that you feel that I AND OTHERS have all "chosen" to believe this way, and that we belong to the extremist, reactionary—EVEN CONSPIRACY theory camps. AND....
I don't know what to say to someone who tells me they (she) has viewed the same knowledge that I someone who lives in the same world that I do; who tells me that it TOO (the knowledge received) is a conspiracy (all but for (specifically), references to the federal reserve?) !
Obama is not a it has been alluded to in the media, or are you confused about that Ms. Wiseman? He is not the savior of anything!

WoW, this could go around and around; and being that this is the case, I must plead the Cherokee version of the 5th.
Please allow me to leave Ms. Wiseman with what I know to be a TRULY wise response, and even though I borrowed it, I feel that the source is worthy. And here it is...

And again, I am sorry I had anything to do with you feeling like you have been insulted....Please read on:

If you argue with stupid reasoning you end up being stupid.

Expressing an opinion [stupid] can run you out of bounds and into
areas that are not yours to argue; and no one has any business
matching wits with someone who hasn't a notion of honor.

Consider what good can possibly come from a heated debate
with someone who is in it for the argument alone.
When there is noise and insult, the reason is weak.

Someone said ignorance is behind every argument - but let's not let it be ours.

Are you familiar with Mickey Z? If not, I would highly recommend looking into his work. This Saturday he will be collaborating with Derrick Jensen for "Earth: A Wake Up Call For Obama Nation".
