    We must be extremists
"What do we see today?"My last entry was about to extremism. I've asked If we are even able to change anything, and now I answer; Yes, we are. But we have to look closer where to find the most important things to change. Is that industry, car industry, ecology, medicine, philosophy, arts...?
No, these segments of society will change itself.
The vision of future is beautiful, smooth, it's our vision of "the better days", but. Are todays, tomorrows and yesterdays too poor? Is today bad day, for you? Do you think, that society together did harmed you? Do you feel some climate changes today? Do you feel worse because of global problems? No, and If, It's our problem.

"Firstly we need to change ourselves." And it doesn't mean to be like a person from a sci-fi movie, to the contrary in philosophy we need to look at the past, not at the future. It's a cheap cliché to say: "In the future will be better".

"So, what's the right way to think?" We can think of future, but cannot live for it. It will come still. We don't know what's best for the future, so stop thinking we know. However, we know what is best for present and we know the best of past.

"What can you do right now?" If you're doing something, do it as best as possible. Think about every present moment, analyze problems deeply, synthesize carefully, compare todays with yesterdays, ask yourself if everything is done just great, and the most important; slow down. Take a rest and draw up yours feelings and minds, to be fresh for tomorrow, to be fresh for the future.

(One more time; hope its understandable)

I completely agree with what you think about changing ourselves first and foremost. Once that happens, everything will fall into the right places. I believe I am in the process of changing myself, but I see, just like you, so many people who are ignorant, for one reason or another. But what really blows my mind is that so many choose to be that way. I neither think they realize the power they have inside of themselves, nor that they are actually hurting society in a way.

So I'm beginning to think that our goal is to help these people realize their full potential. We clearly see the problem, while the "sheep" want to remain ignorant of it...so we are the only ones that can instigate the change, no?

Infinitas: Right! I think I'll continue with series of my thoughts, before products and other stuff. About our goal...difficult to say. I'm trying on my colleges, but they're just not listening me. Few does, but really FEW. For me It's a huge dilemma to be kind "teacher";what's exhausting a lot for me; or be an arrogant, unaccessible person; what's more comfortable for me, but not for society. Infinitas, the main problem is that, we just cannot be messiahs. We need time for us to get our minds rested, otherwise it would be called as "the messiah complex". So that's my little dilemma.

I wonder if with the progression of time humans will split into groups, like in sci-fi, of the "backward" and the futurists.
The backward want to keep life simple - they believe in the natural, and that something is wonderful "just because". They have no need to analyze it, and believe, actually, that to leave it unanalyzed is the best route for human prosperity.

The futurists, like you, believe in change. We want so badly to teach it, because of its promise, but frustration arises when the others don't want to hear it. Sometimes, they have a very good reason - to be backwards. Others, the ones we are usually frustrated by, are those who want to deny information entirely, for everyone.
But also I think we should remember that people don't want to be taught - especially by their peers. Some of them will believe it if they are shown instead of told. Some never will.

This story contains views about this kind of backward nature:
    http://spacecollective.org/FastT/4397/The-Gentle-Seduction-

What it says is that we can be extremist if we have the comrades who will follow, and in our group alone we can build understanding and move towards change. That is SC, in essence - we have our agreeability, and hopefully we can use it to move.
But to learn gentle progress is also a virtue, because many more who seem against at first will follow if just given a little time, not written off as the enemy right away.

Wildcat's topic is important in this context also.

    I posed a similar question there —
How can we communicate with those who won't listen, or should we ignore them for now?

And what can we do now?
I like your answer, here; just to do what we can, as best we can, in the time we have.

Olena: You're advancing my stories a bit...I'm not futurist too much. I'll make my point, just dunno when. But, for you, I think that futurism just for futurism is pretty wrong, future will come by itself and we shouldn't be so focused on affecting it. We should focus on todays, we must make better todays to have a better future...but, ssssh!
    Thank you for links

    PK:
I can see that your post is focused on the present. Maybe, then, I was wrong to use the word futurist at all.

I was responding to what I can see here.

I guess the question then is, were you proposing extremism at all?

But you say you have not made your point. Maybe you were not.

porcelainkid     Wed, Oct 14, 2009  Permanent link
Ole: Yeah, extremism at all. Specially focused on ourselves. It doesn't mean extremism like Nazism or Communism. It mean thoughts / minds / spirits extremism.

I apology for misunderstanding. It's probably because I used to talk in long sentences in my native language. This may be confusing for English person or foreigner. Czech language is very rich of expressions, It's a beautiful lang for literature, but not for adaptation to English.

That's ok, "extremism at all" isn't really a correct expression by itself (not to put you off, just to help), in my question "at all" I mean... overall. That is, maybe you were not even suggesting extremism - maybe your title was a question: "We must be extremists?" As opposed to "extremism overall" which here, as you said applies to extremism in general, as opposed to some political type.

But I understand now. I agree with you, it's very difficult to translate anything - this was one of the topics discussed in the comments under Wildcat's post:
Other languages are much more expressive - even if just culturally, in slang. They truly make use of strange metaphors, but the people understand - they are more creative. In English we just shorten everything!

I look at the world and the current state of affairs and then I imagine what someone from 100 years in the future would say about us. Ignoring the absurd capabilities that man and machine would have then, I think they will see us as pitiful, arrogant, ignorant and self-loathing. In a way, I want to be part of fixing that obvious problem in today's society. But how do we go about it? Do we follow the path of the few compassionate mentors of our past, like Jesus and Gautama Buddha and try to be as messiah-like as possible? Or do we accept the fact that we are beyond the event horizon and will never be able to change today's society in hope of creating a better tomorrow? There has to be some kind of middle way that...that sets us free- all of us.
