(beside the fact that Fontana is probably one of my best loved artists ever) we may need remember that though it is true that the original is never faithful to the translation it is also true that the correlation is erroneous in as much as no original can ever be identified as such but through a seriously flawed logic (of sense). therefore in as much as an original is an original only as a translation of an arbitrary perception (and is thus a linguistic habit)- no translation other than the original translation can ever come into existence.. (in time and space- and always after the fact- itself a translation of perception) that of course does not imply that there are no facts as such but only that the translation is already in the perception.

(yes I know.. but needed to say this for my love for Fontana)

thank you Wildcat. i fully agree with the view that "translation is already in the perception", and if so "no original can ever be identified as such but through a seriously flawed logic (of sense)".

Nevertheless, i suggest to read, this original phrase of Borges -)) not as a sentence that come to reveal any kind of truth, or to pronounce any correctness, but as a sentence, that may carry some aesthetic value. A saying, that should be judged according to its power to disturb the banal flow of the known, and its obstinacy to crack old habits of sense and habits of thought, thus, to provoke space for interesting unknowns to come forth.

In my view, any good phrasing, might expose a proposal for a uni-verse (in the sense of proposing a unique coherency), but should ever remember 2 re-present a multi-verse, a polychrome topography, and by that to introduce the (keen) reader to a plane of possibilities, that might not been there before the reading.
Many are the references that come 2 mind with this wonder-full & evasive line of thinking -), yet one phrase, quoting Leonardo Diaz, i find very attractive, at least to any original reader:
"The words i am about to express, they now have their own crowned Goddess".
