    font reflects
    openness, modernity [could be retro-modern], human [not rigid], democratic, liberal, confident, legible [not necessarily at first, but once used it becomes really legible], huggable, personality, not generic but not crazy, looks good, lower case 'a' has a hat [not necessary but would like], can use in future design work [if i have to buy it i'd like to be able to use it again, but most likely i wont buy something if it has no replay value], respect, fun, perhaps a little quirky, and now i am repeating myself by re-wording the same principles so i will stop for now.

    i'm thinking i need to find another font than helvetica. helvetica has been done too many times for signage. we'll see...

    PRESUPPOSITION
    the space collective is quite large, it is on the level of a space Manhattan/city or a reasonable size that requires a wayfinding system.

    PLAN
    physical visual clutter is a problem. for the most part this wayfinding system would not rely on physical signs. instead the system is ephemeral. this can be done in several ways: holograms, lasers, microchip implants in the brain, and most likely others.

    the wayfinding system i am interested in creating will help the person find their destination but also assist them in creating a cognitive map of that particular area in the space collective for future wayfinding on their own.

    also like NY's subway system i hope to somewhat brand the space collective.

    1 Being really interested in biology I looked to the fundamental cell for inspiration. In our realm of existence our societal exoskeletons are all fixed. This seems very limiting and causes a lot of waste (ie constructing a building in fashion back in the 1970s and tearing it down to build another building because A: it does not function anymore in society [environmentally, due to unuse...] and 2: it is ugly and you cannot understand what people were thinking making something sop hideous).

    To remedy this the cell has an incredible structure that may work somehow for society (especially in space with less gravity which could lead to less energy spent [you'lll see soon, keep reading]). This structure is the cytoskeleton; an endoskeleton of the cell in a way made of intermediate filaments (that mostly give structural support), actin (the same protein that is in your muscle tissue that lets you move your eyeballs to read this; its role in the cytoskeleton is to give structure and for certain movements) and microtubules (motors). Not only does the cytoskeleton give support but it also aids in the transport of organelles and vesicles.

    HOW DO WE USE THIS?

    Good question. There are many ways.

    COULD YOU BE MORE SPECIFIC?

    Oh, yes. Sorry. One example is to use this as an overarching structure in the space colony/island/home/blah that encompasses everything and can restructure itself to the needs of the people such as creating a shield (such as the shield we naturally have over Earth) over the whole space collective when huge solar flares threaten our lives. Other uses would be for transportation of materials (ie material goods, food, flesh bags/I mean humans...), construction, solar energy/other energy collection, flesh bag rescue, emergency response...

    To have such a huge overarching structure that we could potentially depend on to live (like our internet machines) causes some questionary such as 'Would this naturally lend itself to some sort of dictatorship (ie Fahrenheit 451, 1984...)?', 'Could it be used, like in a cell, to help us in reaching a positive societal goal?'...

    Another use of cytoskeletal type structures would be on a less macro scale such as in buildings that lend themselves to being flexible and more utilitarian than cement blocks.

    Less macro would be with every object in existence to be able to restructure itself to meet some new need.

    2 Create a transportation system that makes sense (because cars suck... your money, time, life out of you [exhaust]...).

    As mentioned in 1 the cytoskeleton could be used to make a flexible transportation system.

    Another idea would be to create an underground system that has no tunnels, but is more mole-like. Not having a set track allow the system to deliver passengers closer to their locations with a census of the people who are getting a ride, the same could be done with pickup spots (there could be a device that you use that allows you to signal the tranportation when you want a ride and where you are, a central hub would intake all data from society and decide on the best places to pick up different groups of people that are departing from certain areas and going to certain areas).

    There are many systems that could be created but the main tenants that I am a proponent of are creating a transportation system that is adaptable, fast, efficient, and looks really super cool (the last one is really important to my soul).

    3 Mentioned in 2 is a device that you can signal transportation to pick you up. That device could be made into a societal PDA object that is much more radder. This device could allow you to signal the transportation system, write to politicians, keep you up to date with latest news (ie especially if there is a disaster that you need to know about immediately), and connect you with your utopian society up in space (and of course be used for the internet and all other functions internet machines are capable).

    Again issues can be raised about a governmental sponsored object that is existent in everyone's lives. I would like to think that people can be good (we'll kick out all the assholes).

    3 + 1 Utilizing nature and implementing it into our environment everyday, making nature integral into buildings.

    BUT WHY LUCA?

    Because big block buildings with carefully planned placed plants does not work for me. The building still stresses me out. I would like to create human containers that are a merger between containers and a walk in a forest, park, beach, nature.

    Nature can also be utilized in an aesthetic way as well as being integrated into buildings. One simple way could be to have white flowers on a wall and using the flowers like pixels. To change these pixels from white to another color you can simply give flowers water mixed with dye. I am sure there are more complex ways to harness nature's beauty and perhaps these can be useful to send certain messages.
